Becky in Wonderland

To say I had an interesting weekend would be a slight understatement.  Yep that's me with Ozzy Osbourne:)  Have you ever seen a more opposite pairing??  Sweet little Christian Becky with "the Prince of Darkness."  I'll explain everything in a minute, but I had to show you this picture first.  See the Ozzy tattoo on his fingers?  I couldn't take my eyes off it.  Apparently he did that with a sewing needle and pencil lead back in the day...ouch!

Met his lovely wife Sharon too, all decked out in her leather outfit:)  I had to scrunch down to her height for this pic.  I'm only 5'4", so I loved feeling tall next to her.  She is the equivalent of Paula Abdul from American Idol.  She's the nice judge on America's Got Talent.  What a fun job.  I used to watch episodes of The Osbournes too when it was on.  They are practically the only couple to allow a reality show to film them that has come out unscathed by divorce.  That's saying something.

My beautiful friend Kristine was kind enough to ask me to be her date for Saturday night.  Her husband Brady works for the Starkey hearing foundation and is responsible for all the fund raising that enable teams to travel the world on mission trips fitting and donating hearing aids.  It's quite an amazing thing.

Anyway she knew I would love this sort of thing and really couldn't wait to see my reaction.  So I got to keep her company while Brady worked:)  Lucky me!!

We parked in a lot nearby and a limo shuttle bus dropped us off at this red carpet.  This is Brady's boss' house, Bill Austin.  There were approximately 500 people there.  Can you imagine having 500 people at your house?

They had a live band.

(Verne Troyer aka Mini Me in Austin Powers)

It was a gorgeous night, so people gathered all over the house.  His house is on the lake, so the back patio was teeming over with tables and people everywhere.  The garage was transformed into a Mad Hatter themed wonderland with black and white diamonds painted on the walls, funky furniture and chandeliers.  It was crazy!

Apparently when you are really really wealthy you collect things.  Brady's boss is an avid music lover and sports fan.  His walls were lined with autographed guitars, albums, shoes, baseballs etc...  The whole time I was looking at his collection I was trying to think of what I would collect if I could.  I'm still thinking:)

He's really good friends with Elton John and in his lower level sits this gorgeous red piano given to him by Elton John himself.   I thought I'd make myself at home:)

Oh and by the way...I felt so cute that night.  I found this dress at Kohl's for under $20 and then got 30% off that.  So amidst the fancy and famous I was decked out in my $12.00 dress.  SCORE!!

I can't forget to show you the art room.  In this room and scattered throughout the home were original Picasso's, Norman Rockwell, Walt Disney, John Lennon, Andy Warhol etc...  It was amazing.  I've always wondered about people who buy expensive paintings and artwork.  The reason they are so wealthy in the first place is because they understand money and I'm sure these works of art only increase in value, so there you have it...a good investment and it's art!

Top left to bottom right...John Sullivan (center for Minnesota Vikings), Michael Irvin (played for Cowboys and was on Season 9 of Dancing with the Stars), Larry Fitzgerald (wide receiver for Arizona Cardinals...went to Superbowl in 2008), Roy Williams (safety for Cincinnati Bengals)

Several years ago I had the chance to meet Mike Ditka.  I was in Chicago with my Honey.  He was at a seminar and I spent the days aimlessly wondering Michigan Avenue with Big Chick in tow.  She was just a baby at the time.  I was in the Walgreen's on Mike Ditka Parkway when low and behold he walked in.  I couldn't believe my eyes.  I knew my honey would be so impressed if I could get the Coach of the Chicago Bears to take a picture with me...so I rolled on up to him and kindly asked for a picture.  He didn't look to happy about it.  I remember feeling really foolish for impositioning him, but oh well.  Turns out my camera broke and I lost the picture so I couldn't really prove that I met him!

Anyway flash forward to Saturday night.  There were a lot of professional athletes, so I made up for it ten fold I think.  Do you think it's bad to say to them, I don't really know who you are, but my husband loves sports??

By far the best thing about the night was meeting some new friends.  This couple (Laura and Dermot Cowley) posing with Ozzy and Sharon were two of the nicest people.  Laura and I hit it off immediately.  She was just so sweet and it was a ball hanging out with her.  I mentioned to the Osbournes that it was her birthday and Ozzy sang Happy Birthday to her!  How cool is that??

This is Muhammed Ali.  He walked right through the kitchen with body guards surrounding him.  By the time I saw him and snapped my shot all I got was his back.  My camera has the worst delay!

This is Melissa.  We were kind of "stalkers" together.  We hung outside the VIP room and hoped to could get a glimpse of anyone coming in or out!  This is her face when she saw Ozzy come out to go to the bathroom:)

These are her parents Becky and Steve Chepokas.  Their son died several years ago of a rare form of cancer, so they have a cause that they are very active for now.  They run their own foundation called Miracles of Mitch.  Very nice people and he was just a character.  I love people that are fun to be around.

And of course my good friends Brady and Kristine.  I was a little nervous coming to this event.  I can feel lonely in a room full of people and I wasn't sure if Kristine would be fluttering around here and there and forget about me.  It was exactly the opposite.  She was the perfect date.  It seemed like she knew everyone and she introduced me to all of them.  Not once did I feel out of place or awkward.  She made me feel special:)  I am just so grateful for her friendship.

After I got home and showed Honey all my pics, I literally tossed and turned for hours.  I think I replayed every single part of the night over and over.  It was really fun to get dressed up and do something completely different.    It was a night right out of a fairy tale and one I will never ever forget.

Have a blessed day.

Fly

The other day we had some playmates over.  We pulled out a table, some canvas and paints and decided to FLY.

They were all protective of their ideas...at first.  Then they couldn't wait to see each other's creations.

Big Chick didn't get a chance to finish hers, but overall they each had their very own design.  No blue skies here:)

Have you had the chance to fly lately??

Have a blessed day.

Oh and another give-away alert:)  My friend "The Lady" is a having her 400th post give-away this week.  Go on over and leave a comment for a chance to win my "Rest Easy" necklace.

Natalie

Several years ago I was sitting in a mommy meeting...you know like MOPS.  When this girl stood up and asked for prayer, and for some reason I was drawn to her like a moth to a flame.  We became fast friends.  She joined my bible study group, started going to my church...our circles became the exact same.  Her husband was in the military and he was overseas for a long time, so she had moved back home with her mom and baby girl.  I don't know who needed the friendship more her or me.  But it filled a hole...a void.  We did everything together.  Then she moved away.

Fast forward about 6-7 years later.  Our paths have only crossed twice since then.  Only when we make it out to Colorado do we see each other.  We don't talk but maybe once or twice a year, but when we do it's like yesterday she was my everyday friend.  I think God puts people in our lives when we need them most.  There are seasons with friendships.  I was there for her while she waited for her husband, and she kept me company in those lonely new mommy days.  I thank God for placing her in my path.  She was and still is a blessing in my life.  He always knows just who and/or what we need...just when we need it:)  So thankful for that.

Have a blessed day.

I am second

I came home last night after visiting with a friend and found my Honey teary eyed sitting by his computer.  He told me he just had a spiritual experience and proceeded to tell me about a video he'd watched.  My husband loves music.  It really speaks to him.  Lately he's been listening a lot to Brian Welch.  The music is very very dark and almost scary.  I don't really get it, but the lyrics are amazing and it ministers to my husband.  To each their own.

Brian Welch used to be in the hard rock band called Korn.  He's covered in tattoos and is frightening to look at.  In the video he gives his testimony and shares that even though he was rich, successful and seemed to have it all his life was empty.  He was a pumped up with pride and became a meth junkie.  The mother of his child overdosed on drugs and he knew that was his fate too.  It was just an honest story of a very "somewhat unreachable" soul.  What gripped my heart is that his realtor felt that he was supposed to share a scripture with him.  Matthew 11:28... Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  God took that one scripture and the obedience of that man to win his soul.

BRIAN HEAD WELCH - I AM SECOND from BRIAN HEAD WELCH on Vimeo.

I really don't know who I'm writing this to.  Scary tattoo man is not my usual audience, but for some reason God put his testimony on my heart to share.  So if you are out there and you have a brother, friend, husband, co-worker, cousin etc...that needs Jesus and seems completely unreachable...this is for you.  Be obedient, like that realtor, and share what God has put on your heart.

Have a blessed day.

The gift of summer

We've been taking walks after dinner.

Enjoying all that summer has to offer.

I try to take in every little thing.  Knowing winter will blanket all that I see and hear in no time at all.

This little pond brimming with noisy critters.

Green and gold as far as I can see.

The smell of the earth and the corn as the summer sun warms its husks.  Oh how I love to smell the corn.

My girl's laughter as they go higher and higher.  It's a beautiful thing.  What is your favorite thing about Summer?

Have a blessed day.

****I'm having a give-away today over at my blogging friend Teresa's.  Make sure to go check it out:)*****

Garden of the Gods

I'm an itinerary girl.  When I vacation not only do I like to relax, I like to get out there and explore.  We only had a few days in the Springs, but I really wanted the girls to get a chance to see the Garden of the Gods up close.  It's such a beautiful spot.

All the red rock, soaring vistas, crooks and crevices.  Makes for a wonderful hike.

So we hit the paths and explored a little.  Spent the day with family.

It was a time not only of soaking in God's beauty, but one of reflection for me.  I was really nervous about coming out to Colorado.  Honey's mom had remarried and it was our first opportunity to see her married...to get to know the new step dad.

This process of moving on and letting go of the past has been painful.  Honey has had a really hard time with the death of his dad.  I wasn't sure if there was room in his heart for change...

I don't know why I am always surprised by the lovingkindness of our God.  How He can take brokenness and mend.  How He can open our eyes and expand our hearts.  It's amazing.

So it was in that place...The Garden of the Gods that I saw first hand God's miraculous power.  His healing and restoration amongst the hard edged rocks...the dirt and dust settled at last.

Have a blessed day.

Good things:)

(photo taken by Jeanne)

Hey girlies hope you all had a great weekend.  I wanted to show you the treasure I found in Colorado when I visited Jeanne.  She took me to an awesome store called The Barn in Castle Rock.  My heart went pitter patter when I saw this chandie.  It was just sooo me.  I was really trying to be good though and decided to pass on it.

But when I couldn't erase it from my mind...I knew it must be mine:)  Honey was nice enough to take me back on our way home and now this sweet little thing is hanging in my front entry.

I just love what a light can do.  Thank you Honey for being the awesome "handy man" that you are!!

Almost a year ago our garbage can finally hit the dust.  I've looked and haven't been able to find one that I liked, so we've had this hanging on our door...forever.  After a while we just got used to it!  Finally FINALLY I found one at TJ Maxx this week and...ta-da!

We are back in business...ha! Isn't it crazy how you can just get used to something?  Maybe it annoys you daily, but you just stuff down the annoyance and don't do anything about it.  Amazing how such a little thing, like a trash can make you so happy:)

Thought I'd share these crazy clouds with you.  We were in the path of a huge scary storm with tornadoes and baseball size hail last night and it missed us.  Thank you JESUS...it missed us!  What good things have come your way lately??

Have a blessed day.
