I've never been comfortable with calling myself an artist. When I say it I kind of mumble it beneath my breath and downplay that I could have such a title. I feel like a fraud, that I should have my work shown in a gallery or have credentials behind my name to say it. To me it's like using the term Olympic athlete, novelist, rock star...Academy Award winner;) How could I possibly be an artist? It's such a cool thing to be:) However, I truly believe unlike the other lofty titles I threw out there that we are all artists. If you can create a beautiful meal, pull together a lovely home, sew something, create anything with love YOU are an artist.

Have a blessed weekend.

Beautiful post, friend! I often struggle with feeling "Creative." I think to myself "It's just not who I am, not what God wants me to be. Truth is, I am beautifully and wonderfully made. We all are. We are all masterpieces of our Great Artist. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome post:O) It took me forever to embrace calling myself an artist and I believe everyone has a creative spark in them:O) Thanks for sharing:O)
ReplyDeleteI have the issue of not being able to embrace the title artist...I don't feel like I deserve it, but others tell me I am. I guess I should just accept it and embrace all that I could do. Great post!
ReplyDeletemy dear you ARE an artist. You eat, live, breathe it!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call you anything but! You are the best artist I know. Which is why I look at your painting on my wall 528 times/day.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the fact that you just called me an artist, too. : )
Where does it say that artists must have gallery space in order to call themselves artists? Call yourself an artist with pride and confidence; God has gifted you with talent. All he expects you to do is use it. Don't spend so much time over-analyzing yourself. Grow in your faith, walk with God with joy, savor every moment! That's a free sermon for today! 8-)
ReplyDeleteit's not easy to say because it's hard for some of us to put our art "out there" and expose ourselves to opinions....scary stuff!! you are an artist! xo
ReplyDeleteFor years when people asked me what I do I would reply "I have a degree in Interior Design". Instead of just saying "I'm an Interior Designer"! I guess I felt saying I had a degree validated it more. I don't know. But I know exactly what you mean. It's hard to say, "I'm an artist" outloud. Even though I think it in my heart! Off to read the rest...
ReplyDeleteWhat a good post.
ReplyDeleteNice Post...
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your blog...
and seeing what God has inspired you to
do and make.
And knowing that God has given you your talent makes the difference, with you giving Him the credit. 8~)
Keep on creating for His glory.
Take care,
Mommy 2 aka Nancy
Hey girlie!!!! Listen to me....YOU ARE AN ARTIST! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post over there! LOVE the little giraffe painting. I'm in painting one this semester and it has for sure been a challenge. I enjoy painting, but I'm not a fan of that ugly beginning stage either. I just need to remember patience. :)
ReplyDeleteGirl, give it up, you are an artist...and you need to own it my dear!! you create beautiful images, a beautiful home and beautiful words, you are the real deal! xoxox happy weekend~
ReplyDeleteLoved this post. Love your humility without denying yourself and your talent. :)
ReplyDeletethanks for the reminder that we are all artists in our own way...God has given all of us gifts and talents to use for His glory.

Yes, you are an ARTIST Becky! Not only with your paintings, but in so many areas. (I wrote more on a comment under your friend's blog who had you guest post) You sure have an artist gift for writing using words from that real heart of yours that blesses me and everyone else who read your blog.
ReplyDeleteI too sometimes start to call myself and artist and then stop and take caution on if I should say that out loud or not. But the way you put it, we have to be creative in many ways with our homes, raising our children, etc.. so I agree with you that everyone can be an artist in some way or form.
We had a leak in our plumbing this week, so the plumber, and insurance adjuster have all been at our house. I haven't blogged much until now and I'm sending out that little something I have for you this week. So watch for it.

Girl, you are one of the most amazingly God-gifted artists I've ever seen. Truly.
ReplyDeleteYou are gifted in so many different mediums, and all I have to do is look at one of your precious paintings to recognize that it's a Becky creation.
You are one of a kind.
Deal with it! ;-)
XOXOXO!
Anne
I told someone that I was a photographer the other day. I felt ridiculous.
