my studio

Good morning girlies.  I am finally posting some house pictures...yay!!  This one's for Sasha (happy birthday sweet friend) who seriously bugs me everyday to put some up.  Sorry it's taken so long, but it's a process and I didn't want to show you the in-between parts:)

This room is one of the main reasons we bought our house.  It's upstairs and is meant to be a bonus room.  It was perfect to store all my crafty stuff.  When I walk in I seriously have to pinch myself that I have all this room to myself.  Spoiled rotten...that's what I am!

Those big shelves on the left are from IKEA!  Love IKEA.  I did a little happy dance when I found them.  They have that cool industrial look without the hefty price tag:)

See the floor??  We had that put in on purpose.  I make a huge mess when I create.  Depending on what I'm working on there are little bits of leather and metal all over the place, and when I frame paintings I have sawdust.  Which makes a huge mess.  Vinyl was just a no brainer.  At first I thought it was really ugly, but now I don't even notice it.

I have four work stations.  One for blogging, painting, jewelry making and sewing.  This girl is in HEAVEN!  The tables are from IKEA too and notice the oilcloth coverings.  Remember this post?  Didn't that turn out great??  LOVE!!!  Oh and see if you can spy my new header that I'm working on.  I have a thing for foxes.  Bet you didn't know that did ya?

I knew I wanted a chalkboard wall.  I'm a little obsessed with black walls.  I bought chalkboard markers, so there wouldn't be any chalk dust.  They work wonderful.  You can get them at JoAnn Fabric or online at Create for Less.  Buy the eraser too.  It works like a normal eraser and is a must have with the markers.

I had two IKEA chairs that used to be in our office back in Minnesota.  I just made some new pillows and put wheel casters on the bottom and now I can roll them around wherever I want seating.  Oh and the slipcovers washed up beautiful.  I'm toying with the idea of sewing a new skirt to go touch the floor, but I kind of like the exposed roller feet.  In this picture you can't really see the feet, but what do you think?

Twinkle lights make me happy.  I found these fun and funky lantern lights at Target.  I draped them all across the room.  I originally wanted white, but they only had two strands, so I just bought all different colors.  At night when I turn off the lights it's like a party:)  Honey actually sings that old song celebration.  That's what I want...a celebration:)

Yesterday I started creating again.  Don't have any excuses now.  My goal is to finally list some of the stuff I've had made.  Maybe 5 things a day...and I have all kinds of fun new ideas. Now it's just a matter of time management and execution.  I'm working to get my Etsy store restocked and I'm starting up with the house paintings again.  So keep checking in.  I've missed that part of my life.  Can't wait to get back in the groove.  Okay so there you have it.  My favorite room in the house...tada:)

Have a blessed day.

  8. That room is GREAT! I just love it~everything about it. I look forward to "fixing" up my new craft room. Love the vinyl floor too, very smart! Thanks for sharing!

  9. I love this room! I don't think I would add a skirt at the bottom of the chairs. Since the shelves have an industrial feel to them, the exposed wheels play their own role in the room. I love a skirt though...

    Glad you are settling in!

  13. I love your room. I think a neat "link" post would be everyone posting pics of where they blog and do their fun stuff in their house? Hmmm.... maybe that can be my first. Have a blessed day and love that you look so happy in your "play" room :)

  25. I only have time for a quick post so let me say, "LOVE IT!" Your space is amazing! You go, girl! Yes, leave the casters on the chair exposed, I think it looks fab. I love oil cloth, too and your work tables are beautiful. Even though we built our house from scratch, I still don't have a room like that! My bonus room is our school room, for now. When I graduate my final two, I will reclaim that space and turn it into a studio.

Your hard work truly shows and you are to be congratulated. Your space looks great and now it is time to have fun and CREATE!!!

P.S. I love that quote on the tag on your lamp, can I borrow it?

  29. What a great space! It must be so great to have such a life and light filled room to create in.

We have a bonus room as well that is our office space but it has become a dumping place for what we don't know what to do with and I almost never go in - in fact, I am sitting at my kitchen table right now! Last night we took a bunch of stuff out that just wasn't working, taking steps to make it a place to enjoy for our whole family.

Love your picture at the bottom of the keychain - Do It Afraid. Many many years ago, when I traveled for my job, I met this really cool guy who started a successful snowboard company. At some point during the course of the night he said to me "Do Something Everyday That Scares You". I have almost written those words to you in my comments twice before.

His words have stuck with me so much. In fact, when I started my business 7 years ago, those were the words that got me through the terror. I even went through a whole process and found him and contacted him. Strange thing, after all those years, he had just recently told someone about me and wondered where I was. Such a small, circular world.

Doing things when you are afraid is such a powerful thing.

Now, if I am not mistaken, Eleanor Roosevelt may deserve the original credit for it, but for me, it will always be Brad Steward.

Glad you are finding your way,
    Laura

  31. Great space! I love the chalk board wall and I had NO idea they had chalk board markers!?!? Say what?!?!!? Gotta get me some of those! I'm in studio envy as I've had to recently pack mine up and move it into a corner of our master bedroom as we are trying to rent out my studio space. *boo* But I like the storage and work zones you have, I'll keep them in mind when I get a full space again! ;) And no, I had no idea you had a liking of foxes! Can't wait to see your new hearder! :)

  65. Oh My Word!! I feel like I could be crafty in that room and I'm not even a crafty person :)

And I always wondered about those chalk walls. I thought they would be cool, but I can't stand holding chalk. I could definitely do markers though!!
Do the chalk walls make that noise when you scrape your finger nails down it like a real chalk board? That always sends shivers up my spine when I hear that sound. (I know, I think of weird things).

So happy you have your work space done. Can't wait to see more of your creations.
    Have a great weekend!

You look so happy in your photo - like an artist who has their studio put together :) My hubby and I are working on a whole house rennovation and I do have space designated for my art studio (yes, I'm a kindred spirit) but I have to look past stacks of boxes and concrete floor to see my future vision for the space. I even started a blog so others could follow our progress. Enjoy your art studio!
