Okay this is the post where I talk about the kids going back to school. I know I should probably be sad...and I am just a smidgen, but really I just want to whoop and holler!!! They are actually more excited than I am. It's time to make friends. It's time to learn. YES!
It's time to get back into a routine. Oh how I miss routine. I NEED routine. I've discovered this summer that I probably have SEVERE ADHD. I have a lot to do...like I'm sure all of you do. I can start doing one thing and get distracted and go off to do that thing, get distracted change to do the next thing and on it goes! It's this vicious unproductive circle.

So it's time to hopefully get some kind of routine and schedule down. Maybe one day for cleaning. Two or three days carved out just for creating. Oh how I miss creating! Gym time of course, and you gotta make time for friends. I especially need time to invest in that.
Loved this chair in little chick's school. Isn't that a great way to reinvent an ugly old thrift store chair? Totally funky!
I had a flashback of my own childhood recently. I remember like yesterday my momma taking me into our old farmhouse bathroom and showing me how to shave my legs. It's vivid. I remember the soap suds and the cheap bic razor that would cut you so easily. I remember her instructing me not to shave above my knee because my future husband wouldn't like to feel prickles there;) Now it's my turn...I took miss big chick into the bathroom recently and I passed on the age old tradition that all of us women have to succumb to. We lathered and shaved and rinsed...and we went above the knee! It was precious. I appreciate these little things. These special mother daughter rites of passage. I know they are small, but that memory is forever ingrained on my memory. I hope she made a special spot for it too.
I kind of chuckle to myself looking at her face in this pic. She's trying to unlock her new locker. UGH! The frustration of learning something new. I feel it. I get it. We are all in the same boat. It's bound to be an interesting week. I pray that new friends will emerge, that excitement will light up their eyes. I pray that the hard and new will become easy and familiar. I pray for good things. I pray that this school year will bring blessings and joy and so much more.
Our scripture verse this week was in Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Boy do I need this verse. This is the week that I've had butterflies in my stomach thinking about ever since we made the decision to move to Virginia. I can't believe it's finally here. Time to be brave. Time to set them free. 3, 2, 1...it begins today:)
Have a blessed day.
55. red and white polka dots
56. happy smiley teacher faces
57. bright colored school walls
58. hours of new time to get things done
59. the gift of learning
60. opportunity to make new friends
61. rites of passage ingrained in my brain.
62. a church we want to visit again;)
Their buses just picked them up. WAAAAA! Big Chick was so excited she could hardly contain herself. Little Chick was really nervous. She could feel her heart pitter patter;) Oh my!

This just touches my heart so much this morning! I love how you love your family, and what a great mama you are to your girls. It shows through those happy beautiful smiles!
ReplyDeleteAwwww! Such brave girls you all are!
ReplyDeleteThank you for that scripture verse today. It was just what I needed. This post made me nostalgic for going back to school. I hate getting old :-)
ReplyDeletewhat an exciting time for them. i hope their day is amazing. and i hope you enjoy your day too!
ReplyDeleteBecky, welcome to Richmond! I recently found your blog through another and have enjoyed reading your posts. I have never made a big move like your family has, so can only imagine how nerve-racking it must be. I live in the Short Pump area, and have been in the Richmond area since 1990, so if I can answer any questions, or recommend doctors, stores, anything, please ask! I have one daughter at JMU and a son starting junior year of high school. I hope you and your kids have a wonderful first day of school!
ReplyDeleteLot's changes...it's exciting and scary at the same time. I hope their day is amazing!
ReplyDeletei JUST posted on the first day of school and how i need routine! :) have a great day getting back to the new norm, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for them and fun.
ReplyDeleteI always liked it when mine were in school. Seems strange to not have one of the two even in college. My son is working on his masters, but he is in Raleigh, NC and doing it one and two classes at a time. He works in a bank. My daughter is a lawyer and she is Mama, now. They are all grown up. Still seems unreal when the start of school rolls around. It lasts forever and then one day it is over and they are grown up. Treasure each moment!
xo, Cheryl
Loved this post Becky....your girls are beautiful, I hope they settle in well at their new schools.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about yearning for a routine....my children go back to school tomorrow and altho I am sad in some ways, I am also really HAPPY!!!! Happy to get my daily routine back and getting to do "my stuff" :)
and they're off! i remember those first-day-of-school-in-a-new-place nerves. i'm sure it will be so good for them to meet lots of new friends. enjoy some alone time! i know i'll be balling my eyes out but, the thought of some alone time, one day, sounds really nice. : )
ReplyDeleteThey look so cute and happy! I hope they have a wonderful first day of school! Tomorrow the girls go back and I can't wait either! 2 full days this week...and so much time to start digging in to some projects and enjoying my quiet house!
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the scriptures that got me through our own move to Virginia. My daughter had it posted on her mirror in her bedroom and one morning as I was packing I saw it there and cried. Scriptures and prayer always bring the comfort we need. Glad to see you are blooming where you are planted. Also glad to see you survived the hurricane. Here at Virginia Beach we were very concerned--we have big trees surrounding our house too--but we came out fine. Not even a power outage--strange! Hope your girls love their new schools. Love from VB!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for them and you too! I know what you mean about the routine thing, I feel the same way. My son started 5th grade today...I'm feeling a little sad that this is the last year of elementary school. He was excited to go back though :)
ReplyDeleteI am crying about the girls looking so big. Seriously. Crying.
ReplyDeleteI hope they have the best year ever. And I hope you have a great year too. I know God has really big things in store for you. Big. Super big.
Such good pictures. Your girls are so sweet and really growing up. The locker picture looks like a mini you. Big day for all of you. I think a routine wil help you alot.
ReplyDeleteYay for your kiddos! I feel ya on the routine thing...it really makes my day go better if I have a routine as my base. It makes the inevitable surprises easier to take in stride.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that verse! It REALLY struck home for me today...how did you know? :)
Praying you all have a fantastic week full of routine, friendships and blessings in all shapes and sizes!
Good morning friend,
ReplyDeleteI just returned from taking my big chick and little chick to school. And while they enjoyed a couple months at their new school, it still felt new to them. I pray the same things for them as you did for your girls and for me. Life.....change is constant! Hope you have a fabulously productive day!
xo~Jill
I know exactly how you feel!! My kids just started school in a brand new state and I felt awful leaving them there to face the "world". Guess what? They LOVE school!! God is good! ...Bethany
ReplyDeleteThis is such a huge time for them!!!! So excited that they are!!!! Be still {Becky's} heart...and lil chick's too!!! hehehehehe....
ReplyDeleteyour girls are really growing up! That chair is soooo you! Glad you found a church you want to try again!! I haven't taught nat about the whole shaving legs thing yet. I told her probably in the spring. have fun today!
ReplyDeleteYour chicks are grounded in The Word and absolutely beautiful! They will do great, who wouldn't want to be their friend?!! I'm praying right now for them and their day!
ReplyDeleteSo happy about the church. I hope it is the one God has planned for you - just so you can quit looking and settle in that part of your life. What will you do with all your free time? :) (kidding of course).
ReplyDeleteI'm missing you today.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy their school has started. They will fit right in and make scads of friends. I will be praying all goes great. And a church possibility...hooray!!

ReplyDeleteThe girls are gorgeous and I hope they had a great day ~ this is going to be the best as while they make new friends I know you will be right there making new friends too! xo
ReplyDeleteLove routine. So necessary. Your girls look so happy and isn't that what we want as mommies? to see happy, smiling faces? P.S. Glad you have some "you" time...so important to moms.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they were excited! LOVE the pic's of their smiling faces! :)
ReplyDeleteTo this day I still have dreams where I can't remember my locker combo!

Wishing "the chicks" an awesome school year...and you, dear Becky, a wonderful routine!!
ReplyDeleteYour girls are adorable.
ReplyDeleteFirst days are so exciting, whatever the adventure may be... I wish them (and you) all the best in their new school!
Awww...my heart is pitter pattering for you and your girls! Precious photos. We love Joshua 1:9. It's a go-to verse in so many situations.
ReplyDeleteI am loving this journey of yours. I know it's not easy, but you're walking with Him and THAT is beautiful.
xo,
Linsey
laid in bed just last night and the Lord prompted me to pray for a church for you guys....so excited to read this morning that you found one that you'd like to visit again.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cleaning and crafting and gym time.... :)
had a great workout last night....and then came home and ate a piece of my mom's homemade poundcake with homemade whipped creme and fresh strawberries. ugh.
and, about shaving legs....it's a memory for me, too. Except I did it in my bathroom WITHOUT my mom's permission. I have the HUGE scar to prove it...one of my first lessons in respecting the authority that God puts before you and suffering consequences of our sin. :( YAY that your big chickie waited on you. :))))))
Oops I just lost my comment somehow....hope it doesn't post twice. Just wanted to say thank you, Becky, for posting that verse when I really needed to read it. I hope a new routine brings you peace and comfort in your new surroundings!
ReplyDeleteSeeing those
ReplyDeletesweet faces makes
my heart ache, a
bit....know it's
a hard, exciting,
wondrous ride that
is ahead for all
of you!
xx Suzanne
So excited for the chicks!
ReplyDeleteI remember teaching my girls to shave their legs! I don't remember my mom teaching me.. I probably just started when I thought I should. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteYou're girls are so stinkin cute. When they smile they just exudes JOY! And that big chick? She suddenly looks older.. whats up with that? ha
Great verse btw. I needed it too!

So exciting!!! The pitter patter... I felt it in my children too! I hope their first day and first week and entire year is everything and so much more!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Lulu
I hope they loved their new schools... I'm also glad to hear you found a church that your visiting again. We have a few friends that go to church over you way, I will try & remember to ask where they go, so you can check them out. I know it's HUGE and they all love it. We will have another first day of school here on our home front. My daughter and youngest lost their school to the earthquake. So they have made their changes and start at their new schools on Mon. If you would please keep our lil county in your prayers. I'm sure there are many little people that are just so scared to go back into a school after that.
ReplyDeleteHopefully soon I will then have my free time, so then we can have our camera day :)
Ps. Love the photo of you and your daughter.
Sarah

I am waiting for my glue gun to heat up so I wanted to visit you a second. You always inspire me..how I wish we lived closer. I am looking around for someone to look up to..kinda you know? Some scardy cat like me but who has umph! Loved all of it..enjoy the days..the quiet and create your heart out...xoxo
ReplyDeletePraying with you for a special sense of God's presence as school begins.
ReplyDeleteFondly,
Glenda
I totally remember the shaving the legs tutorial! We started with Nair. Is that how you spell it? What a disaster. I'm too hairy for that stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love her expressions.
