The Secretariat

The chicks are off school for a few days, so a friend and I took our girls to see the new Disney movie The Secretariat.  It's not too often that a movie speaks to me like this one did.  I needed a pad and paper to write down my thoughts, and felt like jumping up and down in my seat cheering.

It was inspirational to the point that I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest.   Yes it was that good!  Unfortunately in doing research for this post I saw a few reviews that didn't agree with me.  Sometimes you just can't listen to the movie men, they don't know what a good movie is...HA!  And I do;)

The main character, Penny Tweedy...played by Diane Lane, was a suburban housewife in the 70's when her family's horse farm needed her attention.  She played the owner of the greatest racehorse of all time, and for me it was also Diane Lane's role of a lifetime.  She was strong, intelligent and fearless.  She took risks and ran her race.

Isn't that what life is about?  Giving it your best...going for it...not being plagued by regret.  Well in this true story she did just that and the horse she was in charge of didn't disappoint.  I hope you go see this movie.  It's 100% family friendly.  I promise you won't leave without a great big smile on your face and a possible tear or two on your cheeks.  Gotta love that:)

Have a blessed day.

  2. I loved this movie too. What a wonderful story of courage and tenacity! Diane Lane should really get an academy award for this one.

  3. I can't wait to see this! Might have to wait for the DVD, as I don't think I can sit that long in a theater right now, ha!

  4. I agree with you 100%! I think this movie is "preachable" it has such a good message. Did you know that Secretariat had an abnormally large heart...God truly did make him unique to 'run his race'....just like us created unique by Him with our own race to run. With that being said, YOU GO GIRL!

  6. I've wanted to see it since the first commercial. I am so glad you posted this. I had heard it "wasn't that good." I was going to see it anyway as I knew I would love it but these people that rate movies are just not into what most of us really like. Glad you gave it a thumbs up!

  7. Sounds wonderful, Becky!
And what do critics know, anyway? I rarely pay them any mind, they get to see all their movies for FREE. :-P

  8. Thanks for the critique. I never really take much notice of the 'professional' movie critics. It's the peoples opinion that counts.

  20. Sounds like a movie to see and then buy for the DVD collection. Watching him race always gets me choked up. He's pure beauty in motion. To see his stride lengthen and the illusion of him slowing down is freaking awesome. Do they use actual race footage?
I love Diane Lane so I am very glad she shines in this too.

  28. I am going to see it! I never pay attention to the critics. They never have my taste in movies..I think they loved Revolutionary Road and I thought it was so depressing and not good.

  32. Thank you for telling us about the thumbs up you felt for this movie Becky! I have wanted to see it ever since I saw it advertised. I love any movie usually that has a horse in it! One of those childhood wishes to have a horse that never happened, but my bicycle kept me happy! I also like Diane Lane and the sincerity she seems to give to her character. So this is a must for me and hopefully hubby will go see it with me.

Keep taking those risks and keep running YOUR beautiful race Becky! You are an inspiration to the rest of us!
