another door opens

It's been almost a week since we moved in.  Last week at this very moment we were stressed out of our minds.  We'd been living in a suitcase for far too long.  Dragging our tired behinds from one hotel to another...with kids and dog in tow.  We were so so ready to finally be in our new home.  Unfortunately our plans didn't happen the way we wanted and our closing got moved back a day.  It worked out.  We got in.  Just can't believe that was only a week ago.  Feels like a month has gone by.

That first night we camped out in the empty house.  We brought in food and made our beds and drifted off knowing it was just the calm before the storm.

I felt so bad for our movers.  The heat wave we've all been seeing was on full force.  They were drenched in sweat. Dripping all over the floors and walls...ick!  He's probably thinking really...you're taking a picture of me now!

I'm amazed at how well the girls are doing.  They are so brave.  I wish I had an ounce of the flexibility and resilience they have.  They seem to be taking everything with such stride.

As long as they have their Barbies...all is well.  The Barbies were so important we brought them with us in the car for fear they might melt in the truck...ha!

I wish I was doing as well with the changes.  For me some of the hardest things to adjust to is the trees.  I knew this would be the case.  We are about 10-15 minutes from stuff.  All kinds of shopping and restaurants.  But those 10 or so minutes are spent driving through nothing but deep woods.  It's really weird for this farmgirl.

My new normal.

My biggest fear with the trees was a concern about light.  I NEED light!  I was so grateful to see it streaming through my windows on that first morning.  Ahhhh...okay it's gonna be okay:)

This is our new place.  It's beautiful.  There really isn't one thing about it that I don't love.  I'll show you pics as we get things situated.

We have yet to meet our neighbors.  No one comes outside...not sure if the heat is the culprit there, but it makes me a little sad when I think about the constant barrage of playmates in our front yard.

I did get a little excited when I took Fergie for a walk the other day.  This gal a few houses down drove up with a praise song blaring in her car.  My heart skipped a beat.  Could it be I have a sister in the hood?  Please Lord let it be:)

The most important thing we did the night before the movers came was to pray over every inch of our new dwelling place.  Maybe it was more of a plea than a prayer.   We prayed for peace and joy to fill our new home.  We prayed for angels to encamp around us.  We prayed for His presence to be felt by us and others.  We prayed against the enemy etc...  It felt good to do that like we were putting a covering and a blessing over our new home.  It made me feel safe.   That's what I want more than anything right now is to feel safe and comfortable and assured.  I know that's coming.  It's a process.  The unfamiliar will become common.  The newness will wear off.  The knot in my stomach will go away.  I know it will.  I've been through this before.  I just hate this part.

Have a blessed day.

  7. You've been in my thoughts and prayers SO much this past week. Your new home is beautiful. I know what you mean about the trees! Every time we travel east I get claustrophobic. You can take the girl out of the prairie, but you can't take a prairie out of the girl. :) Praying for lots of peace and unexplainable joy for the next week.

  8. wow! Beautiful home!

I love trees, but not pine trees... Not sure why they were ever created... They are tall and ugly and do nothing but create work... When I was little, I spent MANY a morning picking up pine cones, raking pine straw. I vowed to never have a pine tree in my yard when I grew up. :o)

So happy for you and your family though. A new adventure awaits. Cherish every moment! :o)

Barbies. It is hard but I know you will be happy. Love your beautiful home. The trees will grow on you. Think of them as the angels with their arms around you.

  21. Your new home is so beautiful, it is so new, but with such great character, which can be hard to find these days, at least where we live. No worries, the trees will soon be your friends, the changes with the seasons, the snow caps on the evergreens, it is a new beauty for your blessed eye to enjoy and photograph.

    Blessings,

  23. Becky, your new home is GORGEOUS!!! I know it must be tough to get used to all those trees...but I can only imagine what your fall is going to look like...wow.wow.wow. Glad you are all getting settled!! Tell your chicks a big hi from me!!!! Thinking about you all. You can also let your big chick know the first time I had to move was between 5th and 6th grade, just like her. While we only ended up living in that town two years, some of the girls I met in those two years are still my best friends to this day! :) :) Enjoy making your new house your home. :)

  30. I get what you mean about the trees. When I moved to North Carolina from Kansas 6 years ago, I struggled with mild Seasonal Affective Disorder due to the increased cloudiness and the trees blocking 10-15% of the light on either side of the day. I've gotten used to it though I still prefer open skies!

I LOVE trees...it's what I miss most about GA....we have lots and lots of flat land and OPEN SKIES here in FL.....

  37. I'm totally taking steps out of my ordinary comfort zone and this really resounded with me. It's so weird how amazing peace and the knot can co-exist. And how I can sense God's favor and blessing and yet feel so opposed all at the same time. The house is lovely. The light will be there. And the trees may help protect against oppressive heat. And the leaves will change and fall off giving you light in the winter too! I do hope He gives you a sister right down the way. And I'm listening to Laura Ingalls Wilder right now and you are moving from the Little House on the Prairie to the Little House in the Big Woods. :)

  48. I don't mind all the trees as long as they are green and everything is growing, but I can't seem to get over how long it takes us to get everywhere. Where we lived in Austin we were anywhere we wanted to be in about 10 minutes and now it's a bit longer, not to mention we were total city people and now we are not in a big city. I know God has plans for us and I'm just hoping we can find a church home soon so those plans will be revealed to us.
Thanks for reminding me that we need to pray over our 'home' and again over our base house when we get it.
I hope you are getting settled and I'm thinking of you constantly!

  57. Hi Becky. I wrote to you 2 months ago and told you I would keep you and your family in my prayers for a smooth move. Obviously, God decided to not make things go so smoothly but instead, realize that as you came to Him to bless your home, His peace became your peace. Isn't He great like that? I know the trees are unfamiliar now, but as they turn to the vibrant reds, yellows and oranges this fall, you will come to love driving past those trees b/c of the joy they will bring you. They lead to HOME! And each season as the trees change, you will be reminded of the joy and peace the Lord gave you when you first moved to your new HOME!

I'm happy to hear that you prayed over it - we've always done that in our homes - giving it God's blessing and protection and we 'give' it all back to Him. 60. Oh Becky, you home is beautiful! And it is going to remain a precious place for you all especially since you took the time to pray over every room before you settled. You bless my heart, you know that?

Hey, I want you to know that on July 14th as I was traveling through a small portion of Virginia on my way to PA that I shouted hi and also talked to God about you and asked him to meet your every need as you moved in. I also shouted out hi again on my way back home a week later and prayed for you. When I saw the Virginia sign, you were the first thing on my mind. Hope you felt the love that was sent up on your behalf.

I'm so glad He gave you that bright and beautiful sunshine coming through your windows.
His love kiss just for you!

    Big hugs,
    Lee Ann

So good to talk yesterday... and even better to begin seeing some of the photos so I can picture where you live... We always pray over our homes too... so love that about you. Did you bring some of those cookies over to her?? I totally prayed for you to be brave yesterday... you know that old gradeschool saying about friendship right? "You have to be a friend to make a friend." (Personally I always hated that saying because it should go both ways, so why does it have to begin with ME? Whatevs.) Love you friend... I'm eating breakfast, you're eating lunch... crazy. Way too far...
