I Love Dare ya!

A while ago I wrote a post about the movie Fireproof. It's a low budget Christian film that has an incredible message. The couple in the movie was struggling and on the verge of divorce, so the main character's dad gave him a list of "dares" to try with his wife. It's a 40 day challenge and I think it's an excellent exercise, whether your marriage is in trouble or not.

I bought the cards a while back and I thought a few times a week, I could list 4 or so dares that you could try with your own spouse. By the time we finish up, it should be around Valentine's day. Let's just see what God can do if we dare to be different in our most sacred human relationship.

Have a blessed day.

  1. I loved this movie. I've been trying to get my hubby to watch it forever now. I actually bought the couples devotional to give him for Valentine's this year (okay it was supposed to be for Christmas and then I forgot). I'm excited to get into it. Where'd you get the cards from?

  3. I love the LOVE DARE... I did it last year for hubby and finished on Valentine's Day...the best part for me is that he didn't know and I kept a journal the entire time...my thoughts, feelings, his reactions to things, and then I ended with a letter...the last day I gifted the journal to him so he could read my journey and understand what it was because he had no idea...we watched the movie together too...

I had to be quite creative and not go in a row sometimes because my husband traveled and gone a lot then but I just rearranged the things that he needed to be home when he was...it was the BEST thing I ever did!

    I am so excited for you because it is such a wonderful thing and brought me so much closer to him and made me look at some of the things I was doing that I found through prayer {both good and bad}

I think it would be fun to possibly perhaps do some of those again...things for sharing because I think it would be great...

  4. Loved this movie and surprisingly so did my husband. I think we all need to remind ourselves to not take our partners for granted. I'm gonna try harder. Thanks for the reminder.

  7. This is a great idea. I also read a book that mentions how you speak to and of your husband & kids - A Woman after God's Own Heart. It did so much for my marriage, just by making me focus on ME. Thanks for this post and encouragement. Who couldn't use a stronger marriage, no matter what stage you're at!

  8. I was just going to do a post about this very same thing this morning ;) no need now though. What an amazing book, I bought the books last yr & my husband did all 40 challenges & I thought I would surprise him at a later time while doing mine and I wanted to be done as well before V day! I'm not a Negative Nelly by any means, but let me tell you just how hard it was for me to go an entire day with saying absolutely nothing negative! I had to lock myself in my room at one point ;) Love your blog!

  11. I love this movie. A great reminder not to take our spouse's for granted and to invest in our marriages each and every day. I loved the day when it talked about parasites in our marriages. Very convicting.
I have a dear friend who unfortunately just got divorced. She has said more than once that she deeply regrets leaving her husband and her marriage in the fire so long. I recently dedicated a post to her, the one with the Kutless song, What Faith Can Do.
Thanks for posting this, a great reminder, especially as we approach Valentine's Day.
    I accept the dare. :)

  14. Becky, Becky, Becky. Valentine's Day is my very favorite Holiday on the planet. (well, really- they all are. I love a holiday) I love everything about it. This is such a wonderful idea too! I liked that movie, because I really love Kirk Cameron. :)

Your reminder of this is really timely for a struggling relationship close to me. I'm going to see about getting her these cards, as we just spoke about it for nearly two hours last night. Where did you find these at?

    Sending ya love girl!

  15. I loved that movie! Struggled with the reality of it some, but liked it nonetheless. I have the Love Dare book, but have not done the Dare.
Can't wait to hear your experience with the Dare though!

  16. Oh I just loved this movie. Did you know that in the end when it shows Kurt Cameron and his wife kissing it is actually his real-life wife? He wouldn't kiss the actress, he would only kiss his own wife:) I think that is so romantic and wonderful to have an actor make that decision.

  22. Sweet!
This looks similar to a challenge that I did through the 'Revive Our Hearts site, (husband encouragement challenge)

    It was a great experience!

I have not seen Love Dare yet, but it's on my list. Hubby's kind of a movie snob and he's afraid it'll be 'cheesy'

  23. You are so good at changing your background! Not me I am not good with change :) But I am okay with that. I haven't rearranged my bedroom in 9 years :)

  28. Oh, hey- those cards look pretty cool. I think it would be fun to go covert on this and leave hubby scratching his head as to why I'm being so nice to him- HA!
And the purple cow is coming dear- just be patient ;o)

  29. You know a part of me wishes I was married so I could do those, the other part of me says "Um you have kids!! Adapt them for the kids!!!" So that's what I've been doing. I wrote out the dares (thanks to the best bud who bought the book for HER marriage) in a different form so they fit my relationship with my KIDS instead.
Whew talk about transformations.... I'll let you know how it goes, but so far, the kids and I are a lot happier (and they pick up on behaviors a bit faster than adults do!)

  30. I loved the movie too. :) Saw it in the theatre with my husband. There were definitely a few cheesy actors here and there, but the message was. SO. GREAT. !!! I have the book, but haven't gone through the steps yet....

  33. I've never seen the movie, but I do have the 40 day challenge journal...That's a great idea to pull that out. Sometimes kids just sooo overshadow marriage and it's not a good thing. Thanks for getting me thinking :)

  37. What an excellent idea to post the dares for us. My husband and I saw this movie and loved it. I've always had intentions of getting a hold of the Dare list, but just haven't. After looking at the 4 cards you posted, I believe I will join in on this. My husband goes to college and works full time. He graduates with his 4 yr degree in December. (he decided to go to college after we put our daughters through college. Yes, we are late bloomers) He could use a boost of encouragement right now. This will be fun and I know it will have great benefits for our marriage.

    Thank you Becky!
