Motivators

In
a few weeks I'll be going home...back to Illinois. While I'm there I will see all of my family, my close friends and then some I haven't seen in ages. We have a wedding to attend in Chicago...yay:) And my cousin Tammy is dedicating her baby William at my Grandma June's church. All these fun activities are a great weight loss motivator for me.

I've also noticed some other motivators. I was at the gym the other day struggling to keep up with my run...about to give up and this cute guy jumped on the machine next to mine. Now this in itself is no big deal or anything, but there were lots of empty machines and he picked the one right next to mine?? Well for some reason this little whatever you call it boosted me and I ran alot longer than I was originally planning;) It works the same with music. I can be dragging literally and a great song will come on my ipod and it is like fire in my veins or something. I can feel the energy coursing through me.

(Tammy and Missy)

Another motivator is being around physically fit people. My friend Missy is a great inspiration. She is a personal trainer and teaches aerobic/weight training classes at my gym and just being around her makes me aware of my physical body. My cousin Tammy is a motivator too. She looks amazing. She just had a baby not long before I went out to visit her over the winter and she looked so tone! But there is something about being around her that makes me want to eat. Analyze that! I think I am compensating for feeling like a defensive lineman around her and eat enough for the two of us...ha;) Whatever the reason, it is a wake up call and gets me fired up.

What motivates you to get your act together??

Have a blessed day.

  1. It's the event, celebration, VACATION that motivates me to get serious.
Unfortunately I enjoy eating during fellowships, parties and getaways, so much that I return with extra luggage every time, and I'm not talking souvenirs.

  2. Right now it's my hubs returning from deployment in 3ish months and my sister's wedding in December.

Sounds like you have some great motivators! Good luck!

  4. To answer your question, I am not sure what motivates me.....I am a great one for setting goals - a birthday/party/holiday and then just moving those goalposts and not focusing. I do know that when I am really happy I eat less.....I have actually lost 7lbs without even thinking about it since I have been blogging....no cookies, you see!! So maybe I just need to work harder at being happier all the time and then I would be slimmer, I don't know?!
I did smile as you running faster when the cute guy ran next to you....I think that would work for me too :)
For what it's worth, I think you look fabulous :)

  5. Right now I am feeling motivated to lose weight because I have several events coming up later in the summer. When I am at the gym, if a friend is there I tend to push myself more and like you, if a good song comes on I tend to go longer.

  6. Pretty much the same stuff as you motivates me...big events, seeing other super fit people, etc. The best is looking at my college, wedding and pre-baby pics...I was so thin and look great, so I know it's possible for me to look and feel good about my body.

    Keep up the good work!:)

  8. Good for you. Keep going.

For me, what gets me going is thinking about the feeling I have when I'm done. I never regret going to the gym and always think of the end result.

Also looking at pics when I was 50 lbs. heavier also gets me going.

  10. We are traveling back to my high school turf for vacation and that has been motivating me as of late! Something about knowing people will be sizing you up and measuring the value of your life in 5 minutes or less!

I purposefully go to classes that have male instructors. There is something about a guy challenging you to "Commit!" Rather than a female instructor saying "Push yourself!" ;) You feel like you CAN'T quit because he might call you out on it that helps to keep me motivated! I cracked up about the guy running on the treadmill right beside you!

I do also love that feeling after a good, hard work out and then a hot shower. Endorphins release and I feel so calm and relaxed.

  11. I think you look great!

I get motivated by many of the same things: big events, vacation (swimsuit season!)and physically fit people. The opposite also holds true, though. When I see overweight people struggling on a walk, it reminds me to stay active. I always want to keep up with the kids, playing freeze tag and doing cart wheels in the yard!!

  12. Living in FL near the beach keeps me motivated...although I should be exercising much more than I do!
I love your blog...I just found it a couple of days ago and it is one of my very favorites:)
