Guest Retreat

My folks are coming to stay with us for a week. I am so excited to have them!! We created this space in our basement, so they or whoever comes, has a quiet place away from the rest of the house.

This hallway is right off of my studio space.

I got this church pew at a garage sale for $60.00. Isn't it beautiful? It was plain white and chipped up, so I sanded, primed, painted and then distressed it a little. It fits this this long hallway perfectly!

The bathroom is tiny, but functional. The picture doesn't show the corner shower stall...but it's there. This room is so small it feels like a porta-potty to me. I can easily touch the ceiling. I painted the ceiling the same color as the walls to make it feel a little bigger.

I love pictures of France, Italy... anywhere really beautiful. I have lots of framed posters all over my house. It's an inexpensive solution for artwork.

I'm going to make a headboard someday for this bed. Any suggestions?? I've been to some amazing DIY sites. I just need to narrow it down and decide on a gameplan.

My
two favorite colors are orange and green. I love this room. It's really warm and fresh. The ceilings are lower in there too and it just creates a cozy haven. I feel really spoiled to have a space for when we have guests. It's like they have their own little retreat.

Have a blessed day.

  1. Just gorgeous! Ever think of running a B & B down the line? ;) It is very welcoming - love the yellow hallway. Every house we've ever lived in has had at least one yellow room - so cheery!

  2. We both posted about our cute, tiny bathrooms! :) Your guest space is perfect! As for the headboard, I like it when people use an old door turned on its side.

  3. It looks lovely! As for the headboard, an inexpensive solution is to cut some plywood in the shape and size you want, cover it with batting and then cover that with fabric.

  4. Your guest bath is MUCH nicer than mine... but.... I'm on my way! :)

  5. What a wonderful space you have created for quests! We made our current headboard and we will be making a new one to fit our larger mattress. We just used particle board, batting, fabric, staple gun and we tufted the headboard too. I covered large buttons. Let me know if you want to see pictures and I will describe it better.

  10. Love your guest room! They will absolutely love it! I love that green color. I love the look of an old door for a headboard or getting a piece of wood and covering it with fabric and batting.

  13. That is the sweetest and most welcoming guest suite!! Makes me so wish I had a spare room too... for now, my children are learning the blessing of giving up their room for company.

Oh, and the green and orange! Just darling.

BY THE WAY. My post today... I play with my kids so seldom that it's a bloggable moment when it happens, so you can let yourself off that hook darlin'. I wish I did it more too, but I just don't really enjoy it, (how bad does that sound?) and normally end up getting in their way you know? How's that for mama honesty?

  15. The colors are definitely fresh--I love it! I think a white or natural wood picket fence headboard would play up the freshness even more! Have you seen those? I think they have some posted on the Better Homes and Gardens website if you're interested. Thanks for the refreshing peek at your guest "wing."

  16. Hi,
Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday! Your basement is adorable. Can I come visit? My sister in law always finds the best things at the thrift stores and garage sales. I always tend to find the garage sales where they are trying to sale all the baby stuff that I don't need anymore:D I just need to look harder I guess or more often.
    Have a fantastic day.

P.S. We have a great neighborhood too! We have moved around alot too, and having good neighbors makes all of the difference. (family away from family)

  17. It is so beautiful!!!!! I never would have thought that was a basement if you didn't say so. It is still hard to believe it is a basement!!! Gorgeous!!! I love the church pew in the hallway...perfect for that space!

  18. Absolutely, positivly refreshing. When can I come by for another getaway?? haha
Green is also my favorite color (so calming) and I agree with comment #2 about using an old door as the headboard. The more shabby chic the better, for me. I used to have one for mine... and then I got married. ;( ... long story!

  19. I'm thinkin' either shutters or an old door, too. I am looking for a door-after having passed up on the perfect one at a yard sale-to make into my headboard. I want to add a shelf on top to make a ledge to decorate on.

  20. Ooooo! Love it! I admit I'm a little jealous of your pew. I always wanted one and have even found a few in antique stores but I always chicken out. Great hall color too!
