They go to extraordinary measures to mix and mingle. We have progressive dinners, Flamingo Fridays, Bunco, girl's night out, Halloween bashes, Easter Egg Hunts, Pumpkin carving parties, Pub Crawls, sex toy parties;) etc... They have become our extended family. I am so grateful to know them because they have made Minnesota home. What a blessing.

(I'm the one in black in the front...my honey is the goth guy in plaid in the back.)
Halloween Bash

Bunco
So many great memories.
What about you? Do you live in a neighborhood with people you connect with? What fun things do you do?
Have a blessed day.

ok, this is probably dumb, but what is a progressive dinner?
ReplyDeleteI love love our neighborhood! We all enjoy gardening, flowers, antiques, garage sales, our dogs and being hostesses. I have been so blessed by one of my neighbors. For my birthday she left me the sweetest peach perfect rose at my front door. Today I found a bag labed "2" for my second anniversary of marriage, with the cutest craft inside with our last name. My other neighbor is constantly giving us fresh spinach, tomatoes, and snap peas from his garden. I just love neighbors!! Thanks for your post!
ReplyDeleteYour neighbourhood sounds wonderful, it's lovely to be somewhere and feel so included I think.
ReplyDeleteEven though we live in London which is a huge city, we live in a beauiful neighbourhood where we too have become part of a wonderful group of friends, we have parties, monthly dinners out (Mums & Dads separately), a book club, 1 week-end a year away (again separately!) and we have just been camping - all 89 of us (that did include our 55 children!) As well as being friends, we are huge support network for each other, it's amazing, we feel so lucky.
PS Loving your music today......I had it on all yesterday morning as background music ion the kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived in a neighborhood like this, we aren't close with any of our neighbors in fact we kind of don't get along but I will say it has been getting better. Our house was turned into a business before we bought it and they blacktopped the front and back and we haven't changed it back yet and so our neighbors use our backyard for parking, driving through to get to theirs etc. and that was how it all started, my little guy plays back there and though it isn't grassy we have stuff back there, toys, etc. and I didn't want them driving there big truck through there as he could get hurt and dang it, it is still our backyard, lol. The neighbors on the other side of us are great though, we just don't all talk much. I will say the neighbors that plow through our backyard with their trucks try to make up for it with bringing us veggies from the garden, lol. We have talked about it and they know I don't want them using it so I guess that is what upsets me the most that they still do. Sorry wrote a book! I am going to work on being more neighborly, Thanks for this post and sorry about venting a little, lol!
ReplyDeleteBefore moving to our current house, we lived in a neighborhood where 5 families embraced us immediately and invited us to their couples bunco games once a month and it was also a potlock as well. Good times. I miss them soooo much and I loved our safe gated neighborhood for the kids. Now we live in a neighborhood that has many older retired people living there, but Lissa and I keep our town hoppin hip and young!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have such a great neighborhood!! We don't live in a neighborhood and I love it LOL!! My closest "neighbor" is 1/2 mile away. I love the peace and quiet where we are, nothing better than dancing under the stars with no one watching!! And yes I am being serious LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteWe've never lived in a neighborhood with such a large group of friends, but even having one or two couples/families that socialize is great fun.
ReplyDeleteI [heart] good neighbors!
Isn't it the best to have neighbors that you consider friends?! That is how we feel about our neighborhood! Our first home together was a townhouse. We were surrounded by other young couples and thought it would be great. Well, it wasn't. We tried to get to know people and no one could be bothered. So we weren't holding out much hope when we moved to our current home. How pleasantly surprised we were when, within days of moving in, our new neighbors welcomed us with open arms!!! Now, almost six years later, our neighbors are our friends. We all socialize together: BBQ's, block parties, nights out, getting together for Patriots games and Super Bowl, movie nights, etc!
ReplyDeleteI Love this! And I am a little envious. We live out in the country, so we're not really in a "neighborhood". We talk to our neighbors infrequently - usually when one of the horses gets out. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously no joke Becky... I was almost in tears LAST NIGHT because my neighbor across the street, and my neighbor directly beside me are both moving this weekend and I was feeling so beside myself! I am going to miss them both so much. We have BBQ'd, Block partied, Shared Twilight books (grin) watched each other's kids ride bikes up and down the street, brought meals, thrown baby showers, cried together, gone through cancer treatments with one of them, run errands for each other, and my favorite.. Porch time. (That's when we gather once a month on one of our porches with our favorite drink to sip on, and just hang out)
ReplyDeleteAnd now they are both moving. I'm scared to death about having new neighbors! What if they don't like me?? I just made five flavor pound cakes for all of them last night though my sadness. (all the ones leaving and the new ones coming) We've been here six years this week ourselves.
I can't believe you posted this... today... too funny girl!
You live in the kind of neighborhood everyone dreams of. Right now our little POA is having some issues. There are only 11 houses on our mountain and we can't seem to agree on anything that has to do with spending. Sad.
ReplyDeleteLiving on 46 acres. Neighbors are hard to come by, but one of my best friends in the world lives a 1/2 mile down the road. It is wonderful, we get together at least 3 times a week for supper. Also, her sweet mother (whom happens to be the BEST babysitter in the world) lives next door to her, so it is great!
ReplyDeleteLooks like ya'll have a fun neighborhood. If I did live in one, that's where I'd want to be!
What a blast of a neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteWe aren't close to our neighbors, but we are friendly. We sort of like it like that though, when we are home, it is our little bubble of heaven.
Our dog, Murphy, likes to make friends with everyone though. He is always in their yards, chasing their cats, looking in the windows, raiding their pastures, harassing their chickens....it is embarrassing!
We are the youngest people on our block, perhaps even our street. Our neighborhood is older, and the kind that you might wave at people as you walk to your car, but that's it. The trashy people to the right just moved out (side story, T went over there when the locksmith was changing the locks and the guy told him it was "Top 5" one of the worst he's ever seen!), so we're hoping for some really good people to move in. The older guy behind us is very nice and friendly, but his wife is a bit stand-offish. I'd kill to live in an area that people could get to know each other. We just joined the pool at the end of the street, so I am hoping to meet some other young families....
ReplyDeleteWe had that kind of a neighborhood in CO...oh, do I miss it now!! It was a HUGE adjustment for me when I moved here. So I joined the HOA board, began a Neighborhood Watch (to help get some of the crime out), started neighborhood parties each year, special functions for the kids, etc. and it it SLOWLY but surely warming. At least now everyone waves to us when we are outside and a few even stop to chat *gasp!* ;)
ReplyDeletePeople really just don't know what they are missing if they don't have (and are) good neighbors.
Oh I love it that you have a neighborhood that is just good and full of memories made and ones that will find you and bless your future. Hope your day is wonderful my friend.
ReplyDeleteBTW: My Man's name is Anthony. My ring is a burmese sapphire with trillion diamonds on either side set in platinum. As in exactly like the image on the front of the Town and Country wedding book. Sorry, my email went crazy.
You are so sweet!! It's so funny how you just connect with people via blogs isn't it? I wish we were neighbors too girl... I figure bringing anyone cake will seal the deal, so the new neighbors have no choice. It's me AND cake. We're a packaged deal! lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful time it sounds like in your neighborhood!! That is so cool...my neighborhood is intersting, we have had a lot of people move lately, but everyone seems to get along, but we are nothing like yours!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the green in the "quest rereat". It looks great with that orange. Sounds like a wonderful space for visitors. When we move and build a house, we are wanting to build basement. What a great neighborhood...I am wanting to have a 'bunco' night at my house soon!!! I have played a couple of times and it was a blast!
