taking authority

I have no idea what in the world I ate before I went to bed last night, but I was plagued with one bad dream after another.  Seriously it went down like this...first I killed someone.  They were bad and deserved it...but ick!  Then I put a baby in an oven I was cleaning.  Hmmmm wonder what that means??  In another dream I went to our neighbor's house and the door was cracked.  I walked in and there was nothing there.  Nothing!  That startled me awake.  And finally last but not least, and this is the worst by far, three of my favorite blogging friends showed up on my doorstep.  I forgot they were coming...like that would happen;)  My house was a complete and utter disaster.  We're talking cobwebs and an inch of dust everywhere.  I didn't have one piece of clean clothing.  I was in complete panic mode.

Isn't that crazy for one night's sleep?  At some point I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and regroup, and while I was awake I immediately started praying.  Lord I take authority over these dreams right now in your name.  I pray your perfect peace to flood over me and calm my thoughts and make my mind pure.  I bind what the enemy would have for harm and loose the exact opposite.  Give me sweet sleep...in Your precious name I pray amen.

My momma taught me to pray over bad dreams when I was a little girl, and it's something I've never forgotten.  Comes in handy too when my girlies wake up crying from something scary.  We have to remember as children of God we have authority.  It's a powerful thing we possess and so easy to forget about.  Just thought I'd share those thoughts with you:)

Have a blessed day.

  5. That is just awful! I hate it when that happens to me. I always spend way too much time trying to figure out just exactly what each dream had to have meant too! (I hope I was one of the people who showed up on your doorstep!! Ha!)

Okay girly, big prayers for us this week... Adrain found a job this morning that has totally peaked his interest in another town... came from out of nowhere, and probably nothing will come from it, but at this point, I'm all jumpy when ever anything happens!! LOL

    Love ya sweetie

  6. Amen, girl! My Mom taught me to take authority in Jesus name over those bad dreams, too. Spiritual warfare is so real!

  8. Amen sister! Praise God for the authority given to us thru Jesus. I use those same tools for myself AND for my boys. What a totally NOT RESTFUL night you had.
Take care and maybe you can catch a nap today? :)

  10. Ugh, I despite bad dreams. But, if I wake up with a bad one, I always pray...I was taught that too growing up. Really helps, and fills me with peace again.

  14. That's what I do, too....pray as soon as I wake up.

Although, I do have to chuckle, that the dirty house dream is worse than the murder or the baby in the oven dream! I LOL'd at that, because I'd feel the same way! ;-)

    XOXO,
    Anne

  18. Psalm 4:8 says, "In peace I will lay down and sleep for you alone oh Lord, make me dwell in safety." My seven kids grew up hearing this verse many times, good for scary bedtimes, bad dreams and late night wake ups in the dark. Love your blog.

  21. Wow. I wish I could interpret those dreams for you. I once worked with someone who told me bad dreams were good because they were trying to tell you something. That would be great if you could decipher them. Only you can do that. What does home and oven and baby represent? What does it mean to "kill" something/someone? Google to see what these things could represent.

On another note, that prayer is one of the most beautiful prayers I've ever read. What wonderful words to attach oneself to when one is in need.

Wishing you and your family a most wonderful holiday and wishing you many sweet dreams in 2011.

    Best,
    Rebecca

  22. Weird..I had several weird dreams last night also! Thanks for the reminder to pray those thoughts out before going back to sleep. Sweet dreams tonight!

  23. Crazy...when you have bad dreams...aren't you glad you wake up and realize they're not real. Love that you prayed about it and that you blogged about that...great reminder for me. Thanks girlie.

  24. I have so many bizzare dreams like that, enough of them so that I have looked up meanings. Babies usually are an idea that is coming into form in your mind. So maybe it's something creative you are brainstorming and it's cooking (maturing) in the oven.
Killing is to permantly get rid of something in your life something that is not good for you and that you are ready to let go of.
Your bloggy friends seeing your dirty house is really about letting others see all parts of yourself good and bad. Kind of like what you do here most everyday in blogland.
Empty neighbor's house, not sure. Maybe you're looking at somebody, and thinking you thought they had more to offer, but it turns out that they don't?
There you have it my "Lucy" (Peanut's character)"the doctor is in" advice. Five cent's please! :)

  27. I have been attacked in dreams and night terrors since I was a little girl. I didn't learn to pray against the enemy about them until I was 21. What a gift your mother gave you. Peace to your sleep my friend.

  33. Girl - I love that prayer - I'm going to teach my daughter that - she has bad dreams often. We teach her to pray, but those words you said are just amazing.

I hope you have a peaceful day - perhaps where you can sneak in a snooze - and sweet dreams will flood your mind.

    xoxo - Tracy.

PS I promise to call before showing up to your house....now I know I need to bring a duster, broom & a clean pair of clothes for you ;) xoxoxo

  41. We always pray for peaceful sleep and restful dreams, but when you have a little one struggle with dreams - it is challenging to help them find that restful place. Your prayer is a perfect way to battle those bedtime bullies!
