work hard...play harder

We've been itching to go see our friends, the Hutchinson's, in Asheville.  They moved there from South Dakota not long after we moved to Virginia and it just felt like we weren't alone anymore ya know?  We had neighbors.  They were 6 hours away, but close enough to get to.

We've had plans to visit them for awhile, but when they called to cancel because they were moving this weekend we were like HUH?  Let's not let a little thing like moving keep us from having fun...so we hopped in the car and headed out for a ROADTRIP!

With Fergie in tow of course;)

Their kids are precious.  Not often that I feel that way about other people's kids.  My girls just get along with them so well.  One night while we were busy fluffing the nest the kids made dinner for us, and it was SO GOOD!  I need to put my girls to work more often.  They can do it.

This one has my whole heart.  Is she the cutest thing or what?  She was dancing with a store mannequin.  LOVE!

During the day we worked hard getting them moved in, and at night we hit the town...shopping for the house and eating at fun places.  Had to show off this picture.  Look at my girls hair!  Both of them are kind of a hot mess after a long day, but I DID THAT.  Mulan has officially taught me how to french braid.  If for nothing else that was worth it all;)

Love my Alicia girl!

Saturday we decided to take an unpacking break and went to downtown Asheville.  How sweet are they to entertain us while in the middle of a move?!

Asheville has a very eclectic, folksy, bohemian, hippie vibe.  It's way too cool for me;)  I saw more dreadlocks and tie dye than I can remember.  The people were artsy fartsy.  I know I'm artsy, but not sure if I'm artsy fartsy...ha!  Okay I'm totally cracking myself up;)

Are they the cutest couple or what?  The Hutchinson's are definitely cool enough to walk the streets in Asheville.

While we were waiting for a table we went on a little shopping excursion.  We didn't actually buy anything, but we had FUN!  Don't ya love our jackets??  Wish they were ours;)  Mine was $214.00.  Wouldn't it be fun to just drop $214.00 on a jacket?  Didn't happen;)

Dressing room snapshots;)

We went to a cool toy store and then a fun General Store.  Love General Stores.  I did get a few things in there.  They had barrels of candy.  BARRELS!

BTW  doesn't my big chick look BIG?  She was like a little mother hen this weekend.  She was so sweet with Sophia.  I think babysitting may be in her near future.  Eeeek!

We ate at the famous Tupelo Honey cafe.  Have you ever heard of it?  The food was outta this world.  I love me some comfort food and this place delivered.  Maple bacon...oh my:)  Check out their cookbook here.

She had so many amazing vintage things to put up.  Decorating was easy!  Love her style.  The guys were so helpful.  We kind of just pointed and said do this, do that...and they DID!  No grumbling, no complaining.  They were awesome:)  Now the curtains are officially hung...pictures are in place.  My sweet friend and her family have a lovely home.  It was such a blessing to have even a little bitty part in that.

We love this family. We've kind of adopted them as ours.  They are just like us except waaaay younger;)  God has big things in store for them.  I have no doubt that happiness will reign big for them here in Asheville, or wherever He leads them in the future.  Keeping my fingers crossed it might be a little closer to Richmond.

Have a blessed day.

So glad you had a great weekend!! We used to go to Asheville for a change of scenery when we lived right on the border of NC (we were still in GA). It is an artsy fartsy town.:) In fact we were in Asheville for a retreat when I was pretty darned sure that I was preggers with my first baby! (A million years ago, or 18, same thing!)
Loved all the pictures of y'all. Good friends are priceless!!

Love your photos. Those jackets are so cool. So you.

I've never been to Ashville...but my hubby has a cousin who lives there. (I kept hoping to get a glimpse of her in one of your photos...wouldn't that have been fun?) Scott's cuz plays in the Ashville Orchastra and in some local acousitc band...that plays regularly somewhere. She totally fits in with the artsy-fartsy type. Too funny.

At the risk of sounding like I am sucking up, I do think you and your hubby looked cool enough to walk those Asheville streets too!

Okay, so yes $214 for a jacket is a bit much, but so totally worth it for THAT one!! I LOVED it!!!!!! I might even get a passport, save some dough and head to Asheville just to pick it up! ;) LOL!!! I love me a funky jacket!

Oh and ADORABLE picture of you - the last one! ♥

What a fun weekend! I'm sure your friends were most appreciative of the help you offered them to move into their new place. Nothing like having a few extras hands around! Becky, I can't tell you nearly enough how much I LOVE your pictures! They depict family, love, friendship, faith, and happiness to a tee!

Asheville is a wonderful little city! We have family in Pisgah Forest, about 20 miles from there. Next time you need to visit Biltmore Estate and hike a trail or two off the Blue Ridge Parkway --- you might just run into us there! 8-)

As my daughters would say, you and Alicia are cutieMccutietons. So grateful you were able to work and play so hard.

Your title reminded me of my philosophy for homeschooling.

Fondly,

Oh fun! My older brother lives in Asheville with his family and they love it there! They have a great log cabin that they rent out by the French Broad River about 40 minutes outside of Asheville.
It's in a place called Hot Springs. You can take a bath in these tubs with naturally hot spring water!
Full of artsy details (but not so fartsy:)

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend!

You are such an AWESOME friend!
I think I would LOVE Asheville, it sounds a lot like Austin. Too much fun!
Oh and can I just say that jacket was insanely adorable, but I don't think I could drop $214 either.
Lastly, as soon as I saw the picture of all the kids I couldn't believe how grown up Big Chick looks!
So beautiful :)

Hope you are recovering from all the busy-ness!

I adore Asheville. This post makes my heart sing. My sister in law and her husband live just outside of it. I was so excited to get the Tupelo Honey cookbook for Christmas. I plan to cook everything in that book! If you haven't gone to New Morning Gallery yet, you've got to go next time you visit. It's one of my favorite places ever! Full of inspiration. I'm happy you got to experience Asheville. I really miss places that are FULL of character and life not just in the people but in the surroundings. The blue mountains and the historical architecture. Nebraksa is really starting to suck the life out of me :(

I LOVE Tupelo Honey Cafe! My hubby and I live about an hour and half from Asheville and we often take full advantage and head over there for long weekends. Its so quiet and romantic and artsy! I LOVE it! Luckily Knoxville TN is getting a Tupelo Honey this JUNE and I'm thrilled! It will only be 30 min away. Oh there is this charming little store downtown asheville and I can't ever remember the name of it, but it has chandeliers hanging everywhere. Its so fun and eclectic. Check it out next time your there.

Becky, I absolutely love your blog!! Sometimes when I read it, I feel a sense of relief that blogging doesn't always have to have a direction.(crafty, gardeny, etc, etc) I love how your blog flows, and has meaning to it. Thank you for being such an inspiration!! On another note, we are taking a trip to Ashville in a few weeks too and your post only makes me more excited for our little getaway:) Love the feel of Ashville, and can't wait to go!
Take care,
XOXO

I have been looking for a new post since the new year. For some reason when I clicked your blog on my favorites, the only post that would come up was your last post in December. Something today made me decide to maybe have my own blog. I was elated when I logged in, then added you as one of the blogs I read, and then saw all of the up to date posts:) I read them all (as it was a snow day here) and now I am all caught up. I wanted to let you know you are an inspiration to me. Your writing makes me want to better myself and to include God in my life more. Thank you.
