how it went down

The show's officially over.  It was a long three days.  The best part was getting to know some of the crazy vendors surrounding me and meeting a few of my readers who made the jaunt just to see me:)  There is nothing quite like meeting someone face to face for the first time who knows everything about you and you know absolutely nothing about them.  It's really weird, but really wonderful all at once.

The people next to me were characters to say the least;)  Thought this was hilarious.

I feel like this show was a huge success.  I stepped out and did something that has always terrified me, and I learned a lot in the process.  I learned that it's a tremendous amount of work.  I learned that I really don't like selling my stuff.  I'm much more comfortable making it and sitting behind a computer screen blogging about it:)  I learned that I don't know what in the world I want concerning this little business of mine.  I learned that without the support of your friends and family you will never be successful.  It's been interesting and exhausting and I'm more glad that it's over.  I'm actually giddy with relief.

The highlight of the show was when the owner of one of my favorite store's walked up and introduced herself.  She told me she loved all my stuff and wanted to know if I would consider consigning with her.  I about fell over from complete shock.  I am not even kidding when I say that having my stuff in that store has ALWAYS been my dream.  It was surreal!  When she walked away I cried.  I cried because if for no other reason than that it was meant for me to walk out in faith.  God had a divine appointment for me.

So this week I'm stepping back.  I'm going to clean my bathrooms, hug on my children and honey, maybe take a walk and just breathe.  I can't wait to get back to normal.  Thank you all so much for your wonderful words of advice and for cheering me on.  I need you girls...I miss you girls.

Have a blessed day.

  4. I love when God supercedes our dreams by making them His plan. I stand in awe each time it happens and am thankful that I am in awe each time. Your tears were like an offering of praise to Him. I love this post...so you and so real like you always are. Your transparency grounds those of us who read your posts. Thanks for always being you!

  5. Never met you, but still feel proud of you - that is wierd too! I know exactly what you mean about not enjoying selling your own stuff and I feel the same way. I think you are either a born seller or not. I love to create, really do not love the face-to-face sales pitch. Not much keen on form filling and tax returns and number crunching either, but has to be done!

Think of all you have learn't that you would not have if you hadn't stepped out and lived BRAVE!! Good for you, and thrilled by your Divine appointment!

  8. I can relate! Even when I am in our vendor space putting out new things or re-merchandising on the weekend and shoppers are around, I always feel a little weird or embarrassed about it. It's hard to explain. But I think we creative types are like that, almost too humble or shy about our talents. I am also sensitive and a bit reserved so as much as I love this I am also a bit afraid to really open up and do it. I think just having the space in the shop has helped though! Congrats on getting your stuff into your favorite shop!! That is SO special and you should feel proud. You are amazing!

  16. The bit about HATING selling was always how I felt after doing a show (I make beach bags and now don't sell them). Some people are so gifted at selling but I'm not, I just look surly.

Err, from someone who has done the consignment bit before, may I just suggest in a wee little voice, I'd recommend not doing it. If a store owner really loves your stuff and believes in it's ability to sell, they'll buy your products (you just have to tell them that you don't do consignment!).

  33. What a wonderful experience actually being in a show to start off! And what a cool experience to be asked to sell your stuff in a shop. I would love that too, and be overwhelmed. God will give you the answer...just you wait! I once heard a song lyric say...."God laughs when we tell him OUR plans." Isn't that the truth!

  36. I love that you learned what you don't enjoy as well as what you do. That's really helpful info. And to see how God showed you that and then met your heart's need and fulfilled your dream. So tender, and well worth a few shed tears as well as all the hard work.

  38. Thanks for being a part of the event Becky. You are as sweet in person as you show yourself to be through your blog. Proud to have met you, but wish our spaces were closer, so I could of spent more time with you other than passing one another on the way to the restroom. ;)
You rocked your space Becky, and had the Kare 11 TV clip run Thursday night instead of Saturday morning, I think your sales would of shown that too.
Reward for being Brave, going out on the limb, working hard is a new found opportunity that now you'll have to weigh the Pros and Cons with. Seek and listen to God's guidance...he'll continue to direct your path in which you should follow.

  51. I love how God sometimes puts a little bend in the road we are following... and it leads to a field of sweet smelling flowers... and we didn't even see the field before we turned the corner in that road we were faithfully following... =) Blessings!! I think you are BRAVE for doing the show... it would kill me to have people stare at my creations... that I am already insecure about!! (I need to finish that Beth Moore book!! ha ha!!) Enjoy your loved ones!! =)
